Mencion\u00e9 que esta frase ha sido usada repetidamente en la historia para definir la relaci\u00f3n del pueblo de Israel con las naciones que le rodean. Israel Yuval, un profesor de la Universidad Hebrea (y a prop\u00f3sito, mi antiguo profesor) escribi\u00f3 un libro titulado: \u201c<strong>Dos naciones hay en tu seno<\/strong>\u201d, sobre las percepciones de jud\u00edos y cristianos en la antig\u00fcedad y en la edad media \u2014y yo les recomiendo much\u00edsimo este interesante libro\u2014.<\/p>\n<p>Hasta ahora sabemos que, incluso entre los patriarcas, la familia de Isaac y Rebeca parecen destacar: Isaac fue el \u00fanico patriarca mon\u00f3gamo, se nos dice que am\u00f3 a su mujer e intercedi\u00f3 por ella, m\u00e1s a\u00fan, este es el \u00fanico caso de las tres esposas embarazadas donde las Escrituras nos informan que Rebeca concibi\u00f3 porque el Se\u00f1or respondi\u00f3 a la oraci\u00f3n de Isaac, por eso ellos parecen haber sido una pareja muy tierna y enamorada, especialmente durante la primera parte de su matrimonio.<\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, todos sabemos la historia de la vida de Jacob en conflicto con su hermano Esa\u00fa \u2014y tambi\u00e9n sabemos c\u00f3mo toda la historia de Jacob estuvo muy afectada, quiz\u00e1 incluso definida y determinada por este conflicto\u2014. Adem\u00e1s de eso, al igual que el patr\u00f3n de los dos hermanos que transcurre a trav\u00e9s de todo el libro de G\u00e9nesis, Jacob y Esa\u00fa \u2014a diferencia de Isaac e Ismael, por ejemplo, o de Jos\u00e9 y sus hermanos\u2014 teniendo los mismos padres (y padres amorosos, como hemos visto). Entonces, \u00bfc\u00f3mo sucedi\u00f3 esta terrible separaci\u00f3n entre los dos hermanos?<\/p>\n<p>La Tor\u00e1 no proporciona ning\u00fan juicio o explicaci\u00f3n sobre este conflicto. No justifica, no excusa, no ofrece tampoco ning\u00fan comentario; simplemente muestra los hechos:<em> \u00abY am\u00f3 Isaac a Esa\u00fa&#8230; mas Rebeca amaba a Jacob\u00bb<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\"><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0 <\/em>y nos queda preguntarnos si este favoritismo parental fue la fuente principal del conflicto o si los hermanos no se hab\u00edan llevado bien incluso antes de que llegase a ser evidente. Est\u00e1 claro, sin embargo el favoritismo parental jug\u00f3 un papel muy importante en el conflicto de los dos hermanos \u2014de otra manera las Escrituras no hubieran dicho nada al respecto\u2014. Entonces, intentemos responder la pregunta: \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 sucedi\u00f3 este favoritismo y c\u00f3mo empez\u00f3? \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 Isaac am\u00f3 a Esa\u00fa? \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 Rebeca am\u00f3 a Jacob?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Los diferentes or\u00edgenes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Acabo de mencionar el precioso libro de Israel Yuval. Entre otras cosas, sus respuestas a estas preguntas y su an\u00e1lisis sobre la personalidad de Isaac y de Rebeca no son muy tradicionales, y personalmente, se me han abierto los ojos. Utilizar\u00e9 un poco de su an\u00e1lisis aqu\u00ed, en este art\u00edculo.<\/p>\n<p>Para que podamos entender los antecedentes de los gemelos, hablemos por un momento sobre los antecedentes de los padres \u2014de Isaac y de Rebeca\u2014. En primer lugar, Isaac es un \u201csabra\u201d, como dir\u00edamos hoy en d\u00eda: \u00e9l naci\u00f3 en la Tierra y es el \u00fanico patriarca que nunca estuvo fuera de la Tierra (nunca fue\u00a0<em>bahul<\/em>, como dir\u00edamos en hebreo hoy en d\u00eda). \u00c9l deambulaba poco y siguiendo el mandato de Dios ni siquiera deja la tierra en tiempo de hambruna.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" name=\"_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> \u00c9l pertenece a esta Tierra y en eso es muy distinto a su padre y a su madre; como sabemos, ambos llegaron a la Tierra obedeciendo el mandato de Dios, lo que significa que ambos eran inmigrantes.<\/p>\n<p>Isaac no solo naci\u00f3 en la Tierra y no solo est\u00e1 completamente conectado a la Tierra, \u00e9l tambi\u00e9n trabajaba en la Tierra. \u00c9l intenta algo que su padre no intent\u00f3 y se convierte en el primer agricultor de su familia: \u00e9l siembra y cosecha y es inmensamente bendecido en ello. <em>\u201cY sembr\u00f3 Isaac en aquella tierra, y cosech\u00f3 aquel a\u00f1o ciento por uno; y le bendijo JEHOV\u00c1\u201d.<\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"#_ftn3\" name=\"_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> Isaac siempre ha sido \u201cel hombre de la tierra\u201d \u2014pero despu\u00e9s de eso\u2014, realmente viene a ser \u201c<strong>el hombre del campo<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Rebeca, por otra parte, es inmigrante en esta Tierra, procedente de una cultura y ra\u00edces completamente diferentes. Por otra parte, el mismo vers\u00edculo que nos informa sobre el cari\u00f1o de Isaac por Rebeca, tambi\u00e9n nos dice que \u201c<em>y la trajo Isaac a la tienda de su madre Sara<\/em>\u201d.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" name=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a>\u00a0 Desde ese momento, el lugar de Rebeca <strong>en la tienda<\/strong>, fue el mismo lugar de su difunta suegra.<\/p>\n<p>Tal como Israel Yuval escribe, esta tensi\u00f3n entre Isaac, el hombre de campo y Rebeca, oculta en la tienda, es una met\u00e1fora para el dualismo entre dos personajes y dos s\u00edmbolos. El campo es el s\u00edmbolo de quien vive y act\u00faa en la naturaleza, a campo abierto, mientras que la tienda es un s\u00edmbolo de quietud y aislamiento. As\u00ed pues, \u201cla diferencia entre los progenitores marca la escena para la diferencia entre los ni\u00f1os, los gemelos que luchaban uno contra el otro\u201d.<a href=\"#_ftn5\" name=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Para poder continuar, necesitamos aqu\u00ed algo de hebreo. Mientras que la mayor\u00eda de traducciones llaman a Esa\u00fa \u201c<em>un hombre al aire libre<\/em>\u201d, el texto hebreo lo llama \u201c<em>un hombre de campo<\/em>\u201d: \u201c<em>y Esa\u00fa fue diestro en la caza, hombre del campo<\/em>\u201d.<a href=\"#_ftn6\" name=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a> Por eso Isaac amaba a Esa\u00fa: aunque ellos probablemente no ten\u00edan caracteres similares, ambos eran \u201c<em>hombres de campo<\/em>\u201d, ambos se deleitaban estando en la naturaleza y es muy probable que ellos pasaran mucho tiempo juntos al aire libre. \u201c<em>Mira, el olor de mi hijo, como el olor <strong>del campo<\/strong> que JEHOV\u00c1 ha bendecido<\/em>\u00ab.<em><a href=\"#_ftn7\" name=\"_ftnref7\"><strong>[7]<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Por otra parte, la madre, que estaba sentada en la tienda, probablemente pasaba mucho tiempo con Jacob el cual \u201c<em>era var\u00f3n quieto, que habitaba en tiendas<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0<a href=\"#_ftn8\" name=\"_ftnref8\">[8]<\/a> As\u00ed pues, Isaac ten\u00eda ese lazo especial con Esa\u00fa, mientras que Rebeca estaba mucho m\u00e1s conectada con Jacob. \u201c<em>Y am\u00f3 Isaac a Esa\u00fa&#8230; mas Rebeca amaba a Jacob<\/em>\u201d.<em>\u00a0<a href=\"#_ftn9\" name=\"_ftnref9\"><strong>[9]<\/strong><\/a> <\/em> Las Escrituras se refieren a Esa\u00fa como al \u201chijo mayor\u201d de Isaac,<a href=\"#_ftn10\" name=\"_ftnref10\">[10]<\/a> mientras que a Jacob se le llama simplemente \u201cel hijo\u201d de Rebeca.<a href=\"#_ftn11\" name=\"_ftnref11\">[11]<\/a><\/p>\n<p>La pr\u00f3xima vez comentaremos la famosa historia de la conspiraci\u00f3n de Rebeca y el \u201crobo de la bendici\u00f3n\u201d y as\u00ed concluir\u00e1 esta serie.
