Syllabus Summary

Aimed at Hebrew Level D/E and Discovery Lab graduates who are ready for advanced biblical texts. Explore prophetic narratives from Chronicles and Elisha's miracles, alongside passages from Leviticus and wisdom literature from Psalms and Malachi. This advanced course reveals how heaven and earth meet through the Hebrew Bible's most powerful and complex texts.

  • 1. Jehoshaphat and Ahab in Battle (Part 1)

    The theme of war continues from the previous course but the focus shifts to 2nd Chronicles 18 and the joint efforts of Jehoshaphat and Ahab, the failure of which was reluctantly prophesied by Micaiah.

  • 2. Jehoshaphat and Ahab in Battle (Part 2)

    We continue following and the joint efforts of Jehoshaphat and Ahab in the battle and see how the prophesy of Micaiah is fulfilled.

  • 3. Moabite and Ammonite Attack

    This unit explores the Moabite-Ammonite attack against Judah in chapter 20 as well as the role of prophecy in difficult times.

  • 4. Psalm 115

    Jehoshapat’s prayer of thanks is followed by verses of victory in Psalm 115.

  • 5. Victory over Moab and Ammon

    The victory over Moab and Ammon is compared to the Exodus.

  • 6. The Reign of Jehoram of Judah

    Jehoshaphat’s wicked son, Jehoram, is introduced – as well as God’s promise of hope nonetheless.

  • 7. The Selection of Elisha: Elisha Receives the Mantle (Part 1)

    This unit shifts to the story of Elisha in 1st Kings 19 and 2nd Kings 2-3, where his selection to replace Elijah is interwoven with the account of the crossing of the Jordan.

  • 8. Elisha Receives the Mantle (Part 2)

    Elijah is lifted in a whirlwind

  • 9. Elisha Receives the Mantle (Part 3)

    Elisha’ miracles. The reign of Jehoram.

  • 10. Victory over Moab (Part 1)

    The struggle with Moab is revisited in the context of the story of Elisha

  • 11. Victory over Moab (Part 2)

    Final victory over Moab.

  • 12. Elisha’s Miracle for a Widow

    Comparison between miracles done on behalf of widows by Elisha and Elijah.

  • 13. Elisha Raises a Dead Son (Part 1)

    This unit presents Elisha’s promise of a son to the barren Shunammite woman.

  • 14. Elisha Raises a Dead Son (Part 2)

    Elisha raises the Shunammite’s dead son.

  • 15. Elijah Raises a Dead Son

    Comparison between the son’s death and subsequent raising in a similar story with Elijah.

  • 16. The Law of the Leper (Part 1 & 2)

    The Law of the Leper from Leviticus 13-14 is the theme of this unit, which also explores the surprising connection to the “living water” mentioned in the story of Isaac.

  • 17. The Law of the Leper (Part 3)

    The purifying procedure of the leper.

  • 19. Miracles by Elisha Naaman the Leper (Part 1)

    This unit reverts to the life of Elisha and specifically focuses on the story of Naaman the Leper along with a connection to the story of Miriam’s leprosy in the Torah.

  • 20. Naaman the Leper (Part 2)

  • 21. Naaman the Leper (Part 3)

    Naaman the Leper along with a connection to the story of Miriam’s leprosy in the Torah.

  • 22. The Siege of Samaria (Part 1)

    The Aramean siege of Samaria in 2nd Kings 6 grants Elisha the opportunity to pray that his servant would be able to see the angelic protection.

  • 23. The Siege of Samaria (Part 2)

    After the blinding of the Aramean forces, Elisha proposes to treat the captives with honor and to send them away peaceably on their journey. Famine in Samaria.

  • 24. The Siege of Samaria (Part 3) Psalm 34

    Elisha is threatened by death. Angelic protection continued in Psalm 34

  • 25. Lepers in the Enemy Camp (Part 1)

    The hunger of Samaria’s residents was only alleviated when four lepers discovered the abandoned Aramean camp.

  • 26. Lepers in the Enemy Camp (Part 2) & Malachi (Part 1)

    The Aramean has been abandoned with its wealth and even food supplies left behind. This miraculous provision is compared to Malachi 3 as well.

  • 27. Malachi (Part 2) Elisha’s Advice to Escape

    God’s Promise of Provision. (cont.) Elisha meets the Shunammite woman again and warns her of the coming famine.

  • 28. The Crowning of Jehu

    The secretive anointing of Jehu as king.

  • 29. The Death of Elisha (Part 1)

    The kings in the time of Elisha

  • 30. The Death of Elisha (Part 2)

    Friendly relationship between Elisha and the Aramean leader emerges as they meet for the last time. Elisha continued doing miracles even after his death.

    All our teachers have a teaching certificate and are approved by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. They are all scholars from leading universities around the world, including the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Harvard and Durham University.

    We teach Sunday to Friday according to your local time zone. You are welcome to check the schedule and assign yourself to a time that’s most suitable to you.

    All you need is a working computer with an internet connection and you’re set! We work with Windows and Mac operating systems.

  • How much does it cost?

    The total tuition for the course is $1399.

    Yes, you can pay in 5 or 8 monthly installments, depending on the duration of your course.
