A Few Words About Me

Rabbi Marcelo Kormis, originally from Santiago, Chile, obtained his rabbinic ordination at the Seminario Rabinico Marshall Meyer in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With a Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Jewish Philosophy from the University of Haifa, Israel, he furthered his education with a diploma in Jewish Education from the Melton Center of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and a Master’s degree in Jewish Studies from the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem.

Rabbi Marcelo has served in various leading roles in different communities around the world. Passionate about education, he has contributed to publications and multimedia projects, including the book “Spirituality and Well-being: Dialogues from Psychology, Philosophy, and Sociology” (in Spanish). Rabbi Kormis shares his insights through videos on Judaism, philosophy, Hebrew and religion, accessible on social media platforms.

Education

Rabbi Marcelo holds a Master’s degree in Judaic Studies from the Schechter Institute in Jerusalem and a Bachelor’s degree in Bible and Jewish Philosophy from Haifa University. He obtained his rabbinic ordination from the Seminario Rabínico Latinoamericano in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Rabbi Kormis is also a graduate of the Senior Educators Program from the Hebrew University and a graduate of the Abarbanel Institute from the Seminario Rabinico in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Professional Experience

After obtaining his rabbinic ordination from the Seminario Rabinico in Buenos Aires, and after studying in Israel for several years, Rabbi Marcelo returned to Santiago, where he served as the head of Judaic Studies at the Instituto Hebreo, the main Jewish day school in Chile. In 2006, he became the Rabbi of the Circulo Israelita Congregation in Santiago. In 2012, Marcelo and his family moved to the United States where he served as the Rabbi of Congregation Beth El in Fairfield, Connecticut. Rabbi Marcelo also worked as a University Chaplain at Sacred Heart University where he implemented interfaith initiatives for students and faculty. At the Israel Institute of Biblical Studies, Rabbi Kormis created and developed the course Jewish Life and Culture and serves as a faculty member. He also serves as a faculty member at Sacred Heart University, Universidad Alberto Hurtado, and several other institutes around the world.
